Our Story

Nancy Echols and her family moved to Mountain View in 1979 from Santa Cruz, California. They loved the area, but missed having a local source of natural foods. When Sunshine Natural Foods opened in 1985, they quickly became some of the store’s best customers.

In 1987 Nancy bought the business, expanding the store’s offerings and changing its name to Sunshine Market to better reflect its broad range of products. Over the years we’ve renovated our historical building and added a solar energy system, and we have completely rebuilt the property next door, which is now home to a fun new downtown business, The Neighborhood Tribe.

Sunshine Market has now been a neighborhood fixture for more than 30 years, providing the Mountain View area with a full range of additive-free groceries, including bulk and packaged products; fresh organic produce; locally raised eggs, beef, and poultry; and dairy and freezer items; as well as skin care products, a huge selection of supplements, and miscellaneous household goods.

In addition to selling good food, our spacious back room serves as a community meeting and gathering space. It’s a great place to have a cup of coffee or tea and some conversation while you shop.

Stop by for a visit. We’d love to see you!
